NorDan Moi produces windows with electricity from its own power station

Norway's largest window factory in Moi will have its green profile further strengthened with local hydropower directly to the factory.

This thanks to the acquisition of Fossekallen Power Station's production equipment, buildings and waterfall rights. The power plant has an average annual production capacity of 1.1 GWh, and will be connected directly to the window factory located just a stone's throw away.

CEO of NorDan AS, Trond Magnar Unhammer:

"We're constantly working to make NorDan even more sustainable, and it's a great advantage to be able to utilise local power resources directly in production. Together with the solar cells on the factory roof, the power from the river will be able to cover approx. 25 per cent of the factory's power production. In addition, the combination of sun and water makes it possible to balance energy production so that the factory has a stable supply of self-generated power regardless of rain or blue skies," said Unhammer.

CEO of NorDan Gruppen and chairman of NorDan AS, Dag Kroslid:

"In the NorDan Group, we have a clear sustainability strategy, where we will both offer the most energy-efficient windows in our 6 main markets and produce windows and doors with the lowest possible climate footprint at our 12 factories. We work actively with this strategy across the entire NorDan Group. The investment in electricity with our own hydroelectric power plant at our beautiful factory at Moi is a very good example of our work with sustainability.

A major modernisation programme is underway at our factory at Moi, where we are investing NOK 200 million in modernisation in the period 2023-2025. The investment in the hydropower plant is part of this modernisation. The modernisation is also part of our plan to mark NorDan's 100th anniversary in 2026. When we welcome visitors to Moi, we proudly display the NorDan museum, the large window factory, the product testing laboratory, the administration building and now also the solar cells and power plant. NorDan has an important and successful history at Moi, which we are proud to showcase.”

Factory manager Torfinn Knutsen:

"The factory at Moi is in the middle of a historically large upgrade programme, where we are thinking completely new to create Norway's best window factory. Energy consumption is also an important part of the picture, and here we get stable hydropower delivered directly to the factory. Of course, the power station is also connected to the grid, so that surplus energy is also utilised.”
